What's an Adaptogen?

It's the question I get asked ten times every weekend.  If you don't know about adaptogens yet, you are not alone. I first heard about them from Gwyneth Paltrow back in the early days of her blog, GOOP.  It took me at least a few years before I was brave enough to try them in 2016 and I've been hooked ever since. I put them in everything - the kids' smoothies, my smoothies, my cookies, my lattes, my super mylks... adaptogens are my jam.  But what ARE they?

Adaptogens are plants that have had to overcome intense stress in order to survive.  Rather than become extinct from extreme weather, impossible growing conditions, natural disasters and "stress" in general, they learned to become resistant, resilient, and they Evolved.  I don't know about you, but I've evolved a lot myself.  These healing herbs, roots and fungi really resonate with me.  It is said that they help your body adapt to stress and change by balancing hormones, boosting the immune system and calming the nervous system.  I believe that the plant's drive to survive can be passed on to you both energetically and nutritionally when you consume them mindfully on a regular basis.

Adaptogens have been used for centuries in shamanistic, Chinese medicine and Ayurveda traditions and are only now becoming popular in Western culture. They are the reason I started aMYLK to begin with. I needed a base, a vehicle to consume them regularly. I created aMYLK and voila, my health changed dramatically.  I hope you'll pick up some spicy cacao super aMYLK this week. It has an almond base and I've added raw cacao, tocos, maca, mucuna pruriens extract, astragulus extract, reishi, moringa, rose, ashwaganda extract, cardamom, turmeric, cayenne, black pepper to the mix.  It is sure to help you reach a blissful state!

Sending Love,

Amy
